Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days...

Well, the weather is FINALLY warming up and you know what that means. Uh-huh, POLLEN & ALLERGIES!! But after this winter, I'll take a day full of sneezing instead of shoveling some snow. But now that it's warmer, the apparent spring traditions are coming out. There is a local ice cream store here in Mayberry. I haven't yet gone even though it's within walking distance. But there are reason why. It's only been open a couple of weeks, for the first week I had a bad toothache, then I was out of town, now I'm trying to be a little better and go to the gym.

Yes, you heard me correctly, I had a toothache. Got a root canal. It didn't hurt at all. Shocked me too. I was at work that morning. The most painful part was the bill, thanks to my sad dental insurance. I'm glad my medical insurance is good, because my dental ain't.

But yes, I've joined a gym. I'm even going!! I just finished my final free personal training session. She taught me how to use the machines, gave me some exercises I can do anywhere, so I have a bit of direction. My first week at the gym, I lost 4 pounds. Hopefully I can keep them off. I have more than 4 pounds to lose!

Oh, back to spring traditions, they've been selling stuff on the side of the road recently. The past 2 weekends, someone has been on the side of the road by the interstate selling flowers. Seriously? Besides Jesse James and Tiger Woods, does anyone really have that much of a floral emergency? And, if you need flowers that bad, head to the grocery store, or steal them out of someone's yard like God intended. Someone was also selling OYSTERS on the side of the road. OK, it's bad enough that people sell shrimp a couple of hours inland back in Alabama. At least you cook shrimp. If you aren't right next to the water, why the heck would you buy oysters, especially from THE SIDE OF THE ROAD? Seriously, why don't they call it salmonella on the half shell. Oysters scare me anyway though. They look like phlegm.

On to the serious portion of my blog. It seems like a lot of people are in a state of flux, or change, or hardship, etc. I have a friend right now battling breast cancer (ROCK ON HEATHER!!! You are in my thoughts & prayers), another friend still battling cancer (Keep fighting Susie!!) one friend changing jobs and moving cities (I'm coming down to watch the Braves with ya Brandon!), a beloved pastor leaving his church to move to another one (albeit closer to his grandchildren), people with loved ones dying, others facing illnesses and family issues. These are real issues, these are real problems, real challenges. THIS is real life. Yet, even though those of us in the real world face this, we have politicians being rude to each other while dealing with our nation's issues? They are worse than the characters in "Mean Girls". What's worse, this filters down to the loudmouths on TV and radio which filters to loudmouths in everyday life. Why can't things be discussed in a polite and mature manner? I say if you can't discuss politics politely, you shouldn't discuss them at all and I will head up a council to see if you can keep your voting privilege.

But, back to reality. Talk to your friends, see if they are in need. They may just need you to listen, to say hey, to spend time with them. Treasure your friends. Enjoy the time you spend around people. You never know when you won't get to spend time with them. I'm coming home this week and I have lots of missed time to make up for. That's been the toughest part of this job, leaving my friends. But I still bug you enough through facebook and texts I hope :-D

I hope you had a great Easter (the holiday about Jesus Christ's resurrection, not that commercial for candy that society tells you it is now). I had a nice low key one here, church, home to fix lunch and wash clothes. Now, I'm watching women's basketball GO STANFORD!! And Monday night, even though I picked Duke to win it all and think Coach K is fantastic, I would still love to see Butler win.
